Sylmar, CA: Value Stream Leader - $115,000.00 D.O.E.

The Value Stream Leader (VSL) will be the business leader for overhaul repair station work activity.  This will include, but not limited to, overhaul landing gear products, actuation systems, sub-systems, spares and detail parts.  Position will be a key business partner teaming with other business leaders to plan and strategize sales and marketing strategies, product development, inventory strategies, the implementation of product flow utilizing cellular manufacturing principles, i.e., analysis, planning, techniques and associated Lean/Six-Sigma.  VSL will be responsible for capital equipment review, selection and justification to support business needs.  Leadership responsibilities include but not limited to recruiting, developing, training, coaching, goal setting, and performance management.   As team leader, the successful candidate will partner with other team members to execute the financial commitments of the business.  Manage, direct, and implement operations strategies and objectives to ensure the achievement of division’s goals.  Focuses for short-term goals are quality, on-time-delivery, cost of sales, gross margin, and human resources requirements throughout the value stream. Focuses for long-term goals are the formulation, planning, and implementation of strategies for ongoing process improvements throughout the value stream.  Position will be responsible for managing the entire business process from customer order to customer dock.  The VSL is responsible for quality, cost, and delivery.  VSL will be responsible for capital equipment review, selection and justification to support business needs.  Position will be a key business partner teaming with other business leaders to plan and implement business strategies utilizing Lean/Six-Sigma principles, i.e., problem solving, advanced inventory processes, analysis, planning and utilization of various lean/Six-Sigma tools. REPORTING STRUCTURE AND KEY RELATIONSHIPS The VSL interfaces with the Director of Operations, Director of Sales, Controller, Director of Quality and Manufacturing Engineering, Human Resources and Continuous Improvement Manager, to ensure the company’s customers get the highest quality and the lowest cost and on-time-delivery.  ·          Reports To:  Director of Operations ·          Direct Reports: Planning, materials, procurement, customer service, engineering, quality and production personnel, ·          Key internal partners:  Other business VSLs and managers, i.e., production VSL, materials manager, engineering manager, quality manager, finance manager, sales business partners, finance manager, information business VSL (MRP/JDE). ·          Customers:  Customers and their representatives, source inspectors, inspection and packaging and shipping. ·          FAA: Principle FAA inspector. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES Drive business metrics (safety, 6S, quality, RCCA, on-time delivery, TAKT, cost, materials)Lead operations team (cross functional relationships, skills, performance management, communication, teaming, team development, etc.)Lean / Six Sigma champion (standard work, lead-time, quality, etc.)Value stream strategic and tactical leadershipBased on requirements from customer orders, plan operations for fabrication and assembly of products and services.Ensure efficient and effective manufacturing methods are used.Complies with all company policies/procedures.Complies with all FAA, customer contractual requirements.Moderate travel is required, i.e. customer visits, sales shows/promotions, supplier meetings, inner-company planning and meetings, etc… EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND COMPETENCIES Education:  Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline or related technical / management field.  MBA is desirable. Experience:  + 5 years of progressive operations leadership experience preferably in an aerospace environment.  Maintenance, repair and overhaul experience desirable.  Sales experience desirable.  Continuous process improvement and application experience, i.e., Lean/Six-Sigma, theory of constraint desirable. The Materials Manager is a leadership team member responsible for leading a team of 8+​ direct reports and 25+​ indirect reports.​ As a member of the leadership team, a successful candidate will partner with other staff members to execute the financial commitments of the business.​  Materials leadership includes: recruiting, developing, training, coaching, department goal setting, individual goal setting and performance management.​ Continuous improvement champion provides ERP/​JIT/​Kanban planning and execution to support in-house manufacturing and assembly demand.​  Provides ERP/​JIT/​Kanban planning and execution to drive raw materials and purchased machined detail demand.​  Value stream leadership responsibility for cost, quality, and delivery.​  Improve shop floor processes producing close tolerance aerospace components.​  Typical processes including: milling, lathe, hone, plating, CNC programming, assembly, testing, non-destructive testing, dimensional and visual inspection techniques, and electro-mechanical processes.​  The hands-on individual will analyze business metrics /​ trends and drive people and process improvements.​  The successful candidate will be a lean /​ Six Sigma champion.​

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND COMPETENCIES

Education:  Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Materials, Business or related field;  Masters of Science in Engineering or Management or MBA preferred

Experience:  8+​ years of manufacturing experience, in Materials.​ Experience with managing 5+​ direct reports, 20+​ indirect reports.​
